writing something real

For the past 20 years, I have honed my ability to listen to students and meet them where they are, both academically and emotionally. Only then can a writing coach elicit the most authentic and compelling essay from the student. I have done this successfully with the broadest range of students possible (see my Bio).

My method focuses on creating a safe emotional space for students to freely explore the experiences and beliefs that comprise their identity. This includes setting aside time for less formal conversations with the student. But I also hold my students accountable to deadlines and the highest writing standards. In doing so, I am able to provide clients with a fun but rigorous 4-week process, from pre-writing to finished essay, and the opportunity to develop writing skills, confidence, and self-knowledge along the way.

My students have written essays that helped them gain admission to Stanford, Harvard, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC, NYU, Northwestern, Howard, Middlebury, Reed, Washington University, Kenyon, UW, Wisconsin, and many, many other colleges and universities.

Jonah helped me tell a story of intellectual and moral growth in my college essay. He asked just the right questions to help me identify an experience that showed my growth over time. His perceptive questions and edits helped me to unlock my voice and tell a story that highlighted personal strengths I wanted the application committees to know about while also showing the requisite level of humility and awareness of all that I still had to learn. I even remembered his feedback while writing my law school essays
